International Women’s Day — celebrated every year on March 8th — is widely recognized as both a celebration of women’s achievements and a call to action for gender equality. Now, more than ever, this day highlights social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments while drawing attention to ongoing issues such as equal pay, reproductive rights, and representation. All of us who identify as female/women are being scrutinized for our individualism, independency, and power that men seem to fear.
AS THEY SHOULD.
We are living in a time where men are making decisions about our bodies that they don’t even understand. We are living in a time where men are trying to put women back into the kitchens, laundry rooms, and maid services — all while they do circle-jerks in their office. We are living in a time where men are trying to belittle women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and anyone who isn’t a cis-straight-old-white-rich man. Today, especially today, do not forget who you are.
This platform has been a work in progress, but I decided to launch it today as a starting point for all of the ladies out there who want to feel empowered by women. This will be a platform about my life, interactions with other women, stories, poetry, blurbs from my noggin, interviews about women being f*cking awesome, and a site where we can come together to uplift each other in a world that is trying to mitigate our power.
Women backing women changes the world. When women choose solidarity over competition, they create power that can’t be ignored and progress that can’t be undone. The future becomes stronger, louder, and more unstoppable when women lift each other higher. I hope you tune into this platform when you need it.
Here’s to us: women supporting women.
